He went sailing the first time as a child of 7 or 8 on the homemade sloop of a friend of his fathers. Riding in the back of the open jeep as they trailed the boat to the lake was part of the adventure as was sprawling on the foredeck under the jib when they tacked. Powerful memories for a child always inspired by the wind and the water. Willie has had quite a few adventures since those days, from converting his canoe to a sailboat, to sailing, racing and cruising a wide variety of boats all over the country.
